Dear coaches, mentors, and teams,
I hope each and everyone one of you is safe and healthy. I want to provide a brief update regarding the next season of programming, especially as it relates to COVID-19, and answer some questions surrounding the recent branding refresh that FIRST
LEGO League has undergone.
Renaissance Jax/CFL is monitoring recommendations from FIRST
headquarters, Florida’s Department of Education, and the CDC as we plan our next season’s events, training, and more. We expect to have more definitive recommendations from FIRST
after this year’s Partner Conference at the beginning of June. As the current school year wraps up and we begin to hear how Florida will handle going back to school in the Fall, we will also have more information to plug into our planning.
Teams can expect Renaissance Jax/CFL to deliver the GAME CHANGERS(SM) season, however, we are still analyzing the best method for delivery that keeps our community safe, healthy, and engaged. We know that although this is an unprecedented and uncertain time, teams are beginning to plan for next season (we’re excited, too!). Coaches can expect to hear from us over the course of the summer with more information as we receive and integrate it into our season planning.
As you know, we do not dictate how teams are managed and how they meet, but as you field questions from
parents and team members, we recommend following the current guidelines from your local community and public health officials, as well as agencies such as the World Health Organization
and the Centers for Disease Control, including travel advisories and other prevention recommendations when planning team meetings. You can also view FIRST’s
COVID-19 FAQs here.
Another topic of note is the newly refreshed look of FIRST
LEGO League, which is now one program, encompassing ages 4-16*/grades PreK-8, with three divisions: FIRST
LEGO League Discover, FIRST
LEGO League Explore, and FIRST
LEGO League Challenge.
- FIRST
LEGO League Discover is only available as a Class Pack. More information can be found here.
- FIRST
LEGO League Explore encompasses the program formerly known as FIRST
LEGO League Jr.
- Expos will now be called Festivals!
- *FIRST
LEGO League Challenge, formerly known simply as FIRST
LEGO League, will still be for students aged 9-14 in the US.
- You can download the new logos and branding guidelines here for use in the new season.
It is my hope that I have answered some basic questions you all may be wondering. I understand this is an uncertain time, but like true Gracious Professionals, we will come together to be innovative in how we respond and continue to build our community!
Sending virtual high fives to all of you -
Krystal Martz
